Discernment Process

Partnering with you in God's mission

Discover. Your purpose…

The NewStart Discernment Process is for people, churches and networks who are interested in exploring the exciting adventure of church planting. It is for individuals and teams that want to gain clarity on who God has made them to be and what it looks like to partner in His mission. This is not an assessment based approach, it’s intentionally formational. The steps are outlined below and follows a relational rhythm – connecting with God, self and others.

Initial Conversations

Arrange an initial conversation with your sending church / network leader with the support  of the Gen1K Mission Team.

The Online Self-Evaluation provides you with the opportunity to reflect on certain characteristics that are common to church planters.

Discernment Conversations

Invite people who know you well to have a guided Discernment Conversation.

Personal Learning Plan

Complete a Personal Learning Plan that reflect on your strengths and areas for growth.

Submit an application to become a recognised or accredited church planter and minister with the Baptist Association.

Mission Plan

As a team, use the Mission Plan guidelines to develop a plan for the new church, congregation or faith community.

Present your Mission and Personal Learning Plans to a Discernment Panel who will unpack these with you and share recommendations.

Final Report

Receive a Final Report that captures your discernment journey and makes recommendations moving forward.
